So here we are the older experienced ladies (Schmidt’y – age 36 at the time and me) taking two of our Cloudport young millennials to Bubba’s. Sort of a rite of passage kinda thing. It’s May 2017.
It was so much fun to introduce these two wide-eyed wonderful young souls to their debut Bubba’s visit. An atmosphere unlike anything else you have ever experienced. The place is massive, with different themed areas (including a post office, a diner and a barber shop), all stuffed to the gills with mannequins, antiques and, yes, over 1,000 lunch boxes.
In an article about Bubba’s one fan describes it as “entering the attic of your hoarder grandmother,” and she’s not wrong.
Bubba’s opened in 1961, and many regulars have been coming from the beginning. Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Patty Griffin even wrote a song about it.
Every Friday is ’80s Night, with free admission for people who show up in head-to-toe ’80s attire. Party poopers pay a $5 cover. Customers range from 20-somethings to 90-somethings, all of whom fit right in. It is truly a judgment free zone.
Hi Pat!! My baby boomer group is supposed to go to Bubbas on New Years Eve! However the snow may keep us home that night, I love Bubbas! Would love to see you there sometime..:-)
Diane – Happy new year. Sorry for the delay in replying. I’m curious – how did you find your way to my blog post?
