Palm Springs CA

I had some time-share points I had to use or lose by the end of September. So, I decided to checkout Palm Springs CA as a possible future option for escaping at least part of Maine winters.

Wouldn’t you know it – while I was there last week – they had what they claim is highly, highly unusual weather. It was so HUMID. I knew it would still be hot but as they say – it doesn’t bother you because the desert is dry. Let me tell you 105 degrees and humid is not the kind of weather you can go hiking in. Why, shopping for more than 2 blocks running in and out of stores got you weary. Oh well. Maybe I will go back this winter.

Doesn't it look hot?

Palm Springs Interesting Facts

  • Eight distinct cities actually make up the Greater Palm Springs area.                                     Palm Springs; Palm Desert; Cathedral City; Indio; La Quinta; Indian Wells; Desert Hot Springs; Rancho Mirage.
  • The city of Palm Springs itself is of course best known as a hideaway for celebrities who apparently have been flocking here since the 1920’s.

I went to Spencer’s restaurant one day at the Tennis Club and pretended that I was both rich and famous.  I think it may have worked. I caught people starring at me. Hmm – do you think maybe it was Google Glass they were looking at?

  • The city was not incorporated until 1938. That sounds so weird and new doesn’t it? At least to us New Englanders.
  • In 1990, the Palm Springs International Film Festival was launched by then Mayor Sonny Bono.  I personally had forgotten that fun fact myself.
